Client Pathways/ Model of Care
Our goal is excellence in movement education for our clients using Clinical Pilates. The pathway you take to this goal as our client is determined by your particular circumstances. You might need to have an injury or chronic problem assessed and managed clinically by one of our physiotherapists using clinical pilates. These are individual or 1:2 sessions and are claimable on private health insurance. When the injury has been resolved or the problem stabilized you may progress to studio pilates with one of our pilates instructors (the majority of our instructors are physiotherapists), so you can maintain your health and prevent your injury reoccurring. These are small group sessions for up to four people doing their own individual programs under instructor/physiotherapist supervision. Some, but not all, health funds allow you to claim studio pilates programs under certain condition eg referral by a physiotherapist for ongoing management of a problem.
Clinical Pilates Model of Care
This is pilates–based treatment of an injury or condition, performed by a pilates-trained physiotherapist, who will work with you and your referring physio or doctor. You will start with an assessment and one-on-one pilates sessions, and your physio will prescribe and teach you an individualized pilates program. As you improve and learn your exercises to treat your problem, you may progress to longer 1:2 sessions (duets). You will be given home exercises to help your condition improve more rapidly. It can take weeks to months for chronic problems to improve and eventually get under control (stabilize). You will need to continue your exercises to prevent a relapse, and your program transfers from rehabilitation to prevention and health maintenance. When your condition has improved enough and has stabilized, and if you know how to do your exercises well, your physio will transition you to Studio Pilates with one of our Pilates Instructors, so you can continue your program in a studio group (max 4 people) . Our instructors will also fine-tune your pilates technique to focus on motion control, core strength, flexibility and co-ordination so you can achieve excellence in your own movement and posture. Group Studio Pilates classes are also more economical than 1:1 or 1:2 Clinical Pilates sessions and you can buy 5-10 or 20 packs to save further.
Transition from Clinical to Studio Pilates
This can only happen if
1. You are improving and your condition is stable
2. You know how to do your exercises well and know your program
3. You understand your condition, & what to avoid ( contraindications )
4. You know how to activate your core and pelvic muscles
5. You have a review date set with your referring or treating physio to check on progress and goals, usually after 4-6 weeks of pilates training
